An in-house training video made for Concern Worldwide. The client requested a more tactile and raw impression to the video and to make it more interactive and engaging, which was the demand we attempted to satisfy. I was hired on board to make props, and then went on to assist in stop motion animation.
The objective of this video was to simplify the complex global structure and system of humanitarian relief work, called the INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN COORDINATION SYSTEM, to the various participants from NGOs, Government organisations to Individuals based all over the world - in order to build a better response in times of humanitarian emergencies. Especially since the world was already hit by a massive humanitarian emergency, aka the COVID19 Pandemic - so the topic seemed more relevant than ever.
What was more challenging about the brief, was to break down a very information heavy and complex topic into something that's easily relatable to all ages and ethnicities of participants and volunteers all over the world in a 6-minute long stop motion video. The client wanted to give a more tactile and raw feel to the video and make it more interactive and engaging, so that has been our attempt. We've tried to break down each section into lighthearted analogies and simple playful visuals to bring some 'relief' to the subject (pun intended)! All the art and props were hand crafted using paper, paints, blocks, peg dolls, box board etc. with all the information painstakingly handwritten to keep the look more human. The video was shot over 3 days using Dragonframe 4.0. and a limited crew during the lockdown. A 6-minute long stop motion is a Herculean task - but one that the team thoroughly enjoyed!
